1) Facilitate New SUB Construction and Incorporate Sustainability Initiatives

The new SUB is one of the most exciting projects of the AMS and will leave an enduring legacy.  As the construction stage quickly approaches, I will maintain the new SUB budget and timing through working closely with the professionals and members of the new SUB Project Committee. I will increase student engagement and awareness of the new SUB developments through visible displays and workshops, and will continue to be open to incorporate student input during the construction period.  Through the Social Ecological Economic Development Studies program, I will integrate increased sustainability projects in the new SUB to advance the university’s reputation as a sustainability leader and reach our aim for LEED Platinum+ status.  I will also continue to support our students with disabilities and am excited to increase accessibility in way-finding.  Overall, I am committed to creating a welcoming, functional and sustainable space that will foster a vibrant student community.

2) IMPROVE club administration and support

At the heart of student involvement, the AMS has a diverse range of over 360 operating clubs. I want to improve the club experience by increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of the Student Administration Commission (SAC) and SUB room bookings. Many students view SAC as being bureaucratic and slow, although not at the fault of the employees. SAC has been improving, but I am ready to take it to the next level by making changes to the old rules in the SAC Policy Handbook to ensure that all students receive the best treatment. I am open to hearing the concerns and recommendations from all clubs in order to create a support system to ease daily operations. I will create an online system for all clubs and societies to access their financial and membership information and work to create a home and office space for our existing clubs in the new SUB. I will hold consultations with clubs to collaborate on ideas and interior designs for the space. I will further the financial support for our clubs through promotion of the highly under-utilized Clubs Benefit Fund to assist our clubs in one-time events, capital expenditures, conference fees and other projects.

3) fight for student interests and keep the ams executive accountable

I am extremely passionate about advocacy and defending students’ interests. The VP Admin represents the AMS on a variety of UBC boards and committees, including the Walter Gage Memorial Fund Committee and the Aquatic Center Management Committee, and I will represent the students’ voice in all agreements with the University. Through working with the AMS Communications office and the AMS President, I will effectively engage students with the progress and changes to all stakeholders to ensure executive transparency and accountability. The AMS has potential to become a better-run organization, and through greater communication and awareness of our public documents, meetings and events, I will successfully connect with students through clubs, undergraduate societies and other associations.

4) actively seek a solution for the whistler lodge

Our Whistler Lodge contributes to average annual losses of over $100,000, mainly in renovations. If the Business and Facilities Committee decides to close down the Whistler Lodge, I will explore financially viable alternatives, including utilizing our Endowment Fund to subsidize students going to Whistler in other ways. I will be open to student input and find a solution that will benefit students in the long run.

5) provide effective student services

An additional project I have been invested in is the current AMS Services Review. I want to work with the Executive Coordinator of Student Services to see it through the end and ensure that the AMS is providing quality services to its students effectively and efficiently. I want to improve on the working relationships between AMS services and the Executive Committee and increase student awareness about our range of services.
